Hi everyone, new to the site. I was hoping to make some new friends and get some helpful advise. I have installed Sonar3 on my computer. I have some wave files that I would like to take in and edit, however, there were a lot of effects that were used in the original file. I don't know how to install the effects into Sonar that I used on the songs. Just to name a few; Timeworks reverb,delay ex...Fx, Sonitus,... I also have installed Sound Fordge, would like to run Waves Ultra maximizer to name one... I do not know how to get the effects in that as well . I have all the effects that I need, just don't know how to get them from A to B. If any one could help., I would greatly appreciate it.

In order to enable sonar to use third party software, like your effects, you have to run the virtual studio technologies adapter (VST adapter from now on).
I'm running sonar 4 but I imagine it would be similar in Sonar 3. On my computer under C:/program files/cakewalk there is a folder called "Cakewalk VST adapter 4". I'll bet yours is 3. Open that folder and there should be a program called "vstconfig". Mine has a green icon that looks kind of like pac man. If you run this it will tell Sonar that you have effects that it can use. The VST adapter will ask you to specify the drive/path to your VST programs, it is helpfull if you have them all in one folder, like say "VST effects". Like I said helpful but not nessicery, you can add as many folders as you like. Once run the program spits out a summery of all the carp that was enabled.
Sonar 4 needs a restart once run, I imagine so does Sonar 3.
You say that you already applied the effects you have, what program did you use? Some audio software like Pr*t**ls have propriatary plugins that wont work with other software.
As far as SoundFordge goes I can not say perhaps someone who is running it can help you out there, but it stands to reason that there would be a similar process.

"options" menu -> preferences -> vst effects
Older versions will only run DirectX plugs unless you use a wrapper. DX plugs need to be installed like normal apps.

The plug ins that you already have......are they installed on the same computer now? Any of the DirectX plugs should automatically show up in S3, provided they're authorized. If you're moving them from another computer, you'll need to reauthorize them. You can also access the VST wrapper in S3 via the Start menu in Windows (Programs/Cakewalk/VST Adapter) for any you have that are VST format. Welcome to the boards!

Or- the original files have NO effects, uhh, now? And you want to add effects to them -- now..?
Or you just want to know how to use the effects plug-ins you DO have - uhh, now, with your new Sonar, software that you do have, uhh, now.. with any audio files???
