Well, this is my first post on this forum, and it's about converting a coaxial S/PDIF signal to an optical signal. I am getting a PowerMac G5 (which has an S/PDIF optical in) and i have an Apogee Mini-me (which has coaxial S/PDIF, XLR AES/EBU, and usb outputs). I do not want to be limited to 24-bit 48khz from the Mini-me's usb output.

i have an aardvark q10 and i really like it but i would like to capitalize on its ability to have two more inputs through S/PDIF. and so I'm looking for preamps that have S/PDIF output.
it would be nice if the preamps would be a little step up from the pres in the aardvark or at least might provide a different 'flavor' or 'color' than the aardvark's.
which would be the better way of connecting a rosetta a/d to a pc?
i currently use the rosetta's S/PDIF output into the S/PDIF input of my soundcard (soundblaster platinum 5.1)
however,
I'm considering getting a firewire card for my pc, and getting the firewire expansion card for the rosetta
Yeah so I got me a Mackie mixer that is straight analog. I also got me one of them nifty M-Audio cards to record my stero outs onto the computer. Seems pretty good but I need more quality. I was looking on my M-Audio card and noticed a S/PDIF Out and In line. Looked up S/PDIF and found out it holds digital sounds. So I have the technology of going from analog to digital so I assume.
My question pertains to the S/PDIF digital interface, as used in my Aardvark Q10 sound cards.
Q: Is this a straight-through digital interface, digital source-thru Q10-to computer?
I'm looking at reverb units, and many of the ones I'm thinking about have S/PDIF I/O's. Seems nice, as I could use those now unused sp/dif I/O's from my DAW, but I want to make sure I'm drawing the right conclusions.

What would be an easy way to determine if
an S/PDIF (or AES/EBU) signal is 16, 20
or 24 bits ?
I was thinking of buying a dbx 386 ttp://www.zzounds.com/ite…
and running S/PDIF out of it into 'Brand X' soundcard's S/PDIF input (for simple guitar/voice recordings - I am the ONLY client - lol)
Or should I buy a FMR Audio or M-Audio PreAmp and run the signal analog to 'Brand X' soundcard's XLR or 1/4' inputs.
