Hi guys, brand new thread, it feels clean ! Here's a recording I did literally just now. I have a gate at -48dB, preopen-5ms atk-10ms hold-10ms release-100ms. I did those settings because the Gate would chomp away at my words ! For the EQ, I didn't mess around with trying to enhance my voice ! Instead, I just cleaned up the audio by getting rid of over 20KHz ( Beyond human hearing anyway ! ), and more importantly, got rid of 40Hz and under. That was because I heard that it's just noise to our ears and most playback devices don't produce them accurately, or at all ! I also have a -20 dB threshold for my compressor. 3ms - atk 100ms - release, 3:1 ratio, very minimal. At the very end, I normalized. I use Reaper to do all these things, however, I don't edit on Reaper. Using Camtasia Studio, I compressed again, JUST the peaks of the audio that were left with a 2:1 ratio, -12 threshold. I added 2dB and then I raised the overall volume of the entire from 100% ( The initial volume ) to 195%. Yes, almost doubled the volume of my recording. I'm not sure if there's a difference, but it feels different when I add a volume percentage rather then adding dB.

Anyway, I'm just trying out new things. I recorded between -18 and -6 ( My couple of peaks that I got rid of ). I want to see where I can improve my audio in these qualities ( Compression, EQ, etc.. ) . I really barely even know the bare bones of these things. So any advice on compression, EQ, and other mixing techniques would be appreciated. Thanks guys !

Anyway, live and learn I suppose. I have purchased everything about 5 minutes ago. I could just burst into writing about how cheap I managed to get everything, but that has nothing to do with anything. Against all wishes, I got the Harlan Hogan Headphones. Not for mixing and mastering, I understand. But that's something I wont be doing much of anyway. My current headphones are a $50 pair of audio technicas. They are overly bassy and I constantly find myself unable to even accurately hear my recordings, as I tend to hear the faults in it as I listen to it on different platforms. While a lot of money went towards the mic, I only had about $150 ( Barely squeezed that in the budget ) towards headphones. I needed something good, but it didn't have to be GREAT. While I'm A LOT better at " hearing things " since I'v been doing this a while and training my ears, I'm still no pro. These headphones aren't exaggerated anywhere on the spectrum ( Claimed by Harlan Hogan himself ), and I feel that's all I need for the time being.

I don't plan on quitting, so it'll be times like these that I can look back on one day and see how much I'v grown. So thanks guys for helping me, I truly appreciate the fact that you help, even though I'v got nothing to offer. I'll post audio samples once the mic arrives, c ya guys then.

The recording you uploaded sounds different then what I originally recorded. Did you alter it to the specifications of the second picture ?? Sorry, I'm not really sure what you mean by " This could be the EQ curve and result " . Anyway, thanks for the help and looking over my audio !

This is exactly what I ment, the picture being the EQ curve and the mp3 is the result.

audiokid , DonnyThompson and others. I had a private conversation with Letouch about this recording and this was his last communication :
Thanks for the post . And sorry  . I was actually just seeing if you'd notice something ! That wasn't the TLM 103, it was a mic i picked off ebay for about $5. The TLM 103 came today , but i wasnt home and I'll have to pick it up tomorrow . Thanks again , and sorry for lying !

I honestly thought the recording missed some low end but I never used a 103 so sorry if I've been catched in the lie.

Thing is, I have nothing to prove and no time to waste so I wish a long life and great recordings to Letouch but won't participate further to this thread (after giving so much to it)

Very sorry about that. It's not that I wanted to you to prove anything, I just wanted to see whether the difference would be clearly noticeable in a blind test. I wasn't trying to offend or upset you if that's what I'v done. I simply wanted to see if the difference would be big enough that I would simply be called out on the fact that the recording wasn't living up to what it should. Again, I apologize for the deceit, and hope you stay . But if you're done with helping me, I completely understand, and I greatly thank you for all that you've done for me through all these months. Time and effort that you put in and I learned from and could never repay, Thank you.

I haven't yet listened to the recent samples uploaded ... and now I have no intention of doing so. I don't care if you used a $5 mic from eBay or a $20,000 AKG C12. I'm done here. Deceit and trickery is something I personally don't have time to deal with. There are too many other sincere and honest members who actually do need help...Those who are sincere in their quest for knowledge. . If you've been dishonest about this ... Then what else have you been dishonest about?
We sincerely tried to help you, spent our valuable time doing so, and we're thanked by this type of behavior? Hell, you've obviously got all the answers, right? You don't need us.

So Yeah... I'm also outta here.
