Hi, has anyone tried cutting small holes in the resonant heads of toms and sticking mikes in there? It works good for kicks and would lessen the problem of bleed. Just wondering if anyone's tried it before I go cutting holes in mine. Thanks, Don

Thanks Cedar, I should have realized the phase issue. I am a drummer and recall playing live (way back when). The sound guy stuck 57's in in my concert toms and the sound was great. But we were playing live, and I now use bottom heads on all my toms .Just wanted if anyone has tried it for recording. I think I'll stick to minimal miking for recording. Thanks again, Don

In the 70's it used to be common practice to have toms with no bottom heads and to stick a 57 up inside the drum. The problem with this people soon discovered was the toms would be out of phase with the snare and overhead(s). You also don't get as much of an attack off the drum. This practice faded away as drummers began to use toms with bottom heads again. ...... Fats
