Working with a clipped audio file.

Hello. I recently recorded commentary for a movie but I guess it was too loud at some points. It's odd because its crystal clear until up to around two minutes. But from then on distortion enters the audio.

Is there anything that I could do with VST plugins or Equalization that will get rid of or lesson the effect of the clipping distortion?

Thanks

Is it momentary clip , or is the audio distorted constantly? If it is an ongoing problem, there may be very little you can do to to recover anything resembling the clean signal. But for short duration overloads you may be able to pull something off.

I sometimes do audio restoration, and have occasionally had luck with Waves X-Crackle. It can work when it is a light oversaturation type of distortion like when a mic preamp clips on input. I have also seen it help with short but audible digital overs.

Yeah.

Yeah it is constant through the whole track, I have used the X-Crackle Plug-in and the X-Noise Plug-in but that did little in the way of taking much off. Even though you hear a lot of being taken off when you switch it to difference, it doesn't show up as well in the real thing.

Oh well, looks like we'll have to reform and record again :?
