So my band is recording a 30 min long trck and I am mapping out all of the automation for the tempo changes and parts. One of the parts at the beginning I screwed up and put 6 bars instead of 8. Is there any way to just add the two bars in? And also, I am doing this all on a grid, so when i put in a marker that says "chorus" or whatever what is the difference between absolute and bar beat reference? Thanks

if there is repetition involved you might be able to duplicate s
if there is repetition involved you might be able to duplicate something to fill in the time. It depends what the sound is and how tight is the rhythm. Did you record with a click ?
From what I can gather of your other question, the bar/beats ruler is in musical time notation (bars, beats, subdivision) where the time ruler is just absolute program running time. So the relationship between these would depend on the tempo and meter you choose.

thank you for the help with question 2. but back to the 1st. i havent recorded yet. i am just mapping out the different tempos for different parts in the song. near the begining i didnt put enough bars in, and i wanted to add some and have everything just slide down the timeline

I'm not really fluent in pro tools, but isn't there a MIDI or Event menu that has a time submenu and an insert command there?

ok I see.. I don't think there is an "add time " function in PT as you might find in logic or live. I think you will have to re-do that tempo change and each one after that! Bummer. I hope it wasn't too early on.

no, i'm using PT m-powered and I recall this functionality, because I have added and deleted time from a recording, with all markers and whatnot moving as they should. Look for it in the Midi or Event menu, I don't know which one it was.
I don't know, never used m-powered and I've never seen an event
I don't know, never used m-powered and I've never seen an event menu or event list. good luck
you can add time by cutting and pasting all of the automation 2
you can add time by cutting and pasting all of the automation 2 bars later in time. just select the "all" group and select starting on bar 6, and option/ctl - x and then click on bar 8 and option/ctl - v
once you have all of your automation moved, you can move the tempo maping around so that it is later too. i think you can cut and paste tempo maps too, not quite sure.
there may be an easier way to do this, but this is better than "there is no way".

there is no way, no way, no way! FYI I was looking thru my PT
there is no way, no way, no way!
FYI I was looking thru my PT keyboard shortcuts reference and there is some shortcuts for a MIDI Event List. So there is one in there somewhere. Unfortunately no shortcut is listed for add bars or similar.
