You were recommended from someone at harmonycentral because you have a lot of experience with the motherboard (A7N8x by ASUS)
I wish to use to build my DAW.
Any advice or warnings you can offer would be grrrreat!

I am about to build a DAW and thought I would solicit some basic advice. I am thinking about basing the system on the
A7 N8x motherboard by ASUS.

That indeed is a great motherboard, but the question remains of what audio card or interface are you going to use with it?

There's really nothing special as far as components to use with it goes..Enermax or Antect 350 Watt or higher PSU..

Kingston, Crucial memory

Matrox G550 Video card

All IDE drives should be the 8MB cache ones..plain and simple.

Any CDR/W will do as well.

Can you give us a specific use in which you are going to use it with?

Thanks Opus!
I will be running Acid, cool edit 2000, and a lot of softsynths. I would like to get into video editing down the line too. I would like to record both midi as well as audio. I am a newb when it comes to building computers so forgive my naivety.

I heard that this MB has integrated cards on it. Does that mean they are crap? should I buy dedicated cards?
Thanks,

Typically any integrated cards should be disabled..mostly the video though.

What the main ? here is what audio card do you plan on using? This is the key as certain cards may not bode well with the nforce chipset!

Most of the time they're ok but there's always on off chance it may not work!

Always disable the onboard peripherals you are not using as to open more resources for the other components such as PCI audio cards, USB MIDI devices that relate to the audio/midi part of the machine!

Remember that this really should be a dedicated machine to just audio as integrating it to make it a video game system isn't going to work all that well usually!
