I was browsing for a cheap yet quality alternative to a drummer and came across this http://www.beatbasics.com/product.asp what do you think? would it be worth the $30 for loops or is there a better alternative, I was thinking under $50 for some good drum loops, I just wrote a killer song and I need some percussion for it... any advice would be GREATLY appriciated! thanx!

Hi Jon,

Under what genre would your song fall? There a many great, usable drum loop libraries out there, but they tend to be inclined torwards particular genres and subgenres.

Also, are you looking for loops that are completely "finished"? In other words, do you want loops that have a polished, mixed sound to them, or would you like to be able to mix the drums yourself?

those are some good questions, I don't know why I didn't put the info in with my last post... I don't really know what genre I am here are some rough recordings (and I do mean rough) I they are very far from finished, but they will give you an idea of what I need for some drums... I think I would like unpolished so that I can mix the drums... thanx for your helpfullness, later bro,
love and peace, ~Jon

Hey Jon,

Thanks for the link. No need for apologies - everybody has demo recordings.

My guess, based on listening to your songs, is that your best bet would be to try the Discrete Drums line of loop libraries. They're pretty highly respected. You can get a starter CD-ROM from Sony for about $40:

http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/loop_libraries/showloop.asp?SPID=218
http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/loop_libraries/showloop.asp?SPID=213

Now, if you really like these loops, Discrete Drums has huge 16-disc sets that sell for about $250, but the single volume approach is probably the way to start.

Also, if you decide you'd like some premixed drums to play with, the Drum Tools library (also from Sony for $40) is very useful:

Hope that helps.

Best,
