First post. go easy.
Using Cool Edit Pro 2.1. I want to reduce the hiss and background noise on my avi files. I can extract the audio from the video, apply the effect, but can't figure out how to get the file back into the avi video. I have used CEP2 for hundreds of music files but not video/movies. Any help would be appreciated.

Kansai,

May just be that no one has an answer for you. I prefer "I don't know" to someone BSing me any day of the week.

I haven't used CEP 2.1 for avi stuff, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't support writing to that format. If you'll recall, you had to buy an extra plugin to be able to save out as mp3. I suspect it's a similar thing for avi. If CEP doesn't support saving an avi file, it makes sense that the UI won't provide you anyway to get the toothpaste back into the tube.

Your best bet will probably be to use a different app (Vegas, etc.) that specializes in video. Export your audio and plug it back into the avi file via that app. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is what you're fighting on this one. Hope it helps...

Adobe Audition 1.5 might be worth a look too. It has a whole lot more functions as well as removing hiss, editing sound from avi files etc. Another poster mentioned elswhere at Recording.org (can't remember which forum) how impressed he/she was with this - that person had a car noise during a reverb trail, and was able to edit that noise out seemlessly and even have a clean file of the car noise! I use WaveLab, but am considering buying Audition for things that WaveLab can't do.

I'm using CEP 2.1, which is the first tool I reach for when it comes to deep editing. Haven't upgraded to Audition since Adobe bought it. Adobe's marketing bullet points aside, do you know how it compares in the real world? I'm always a little nervous when a major corporation buys out someone's software and starts hacking on it...

ShowProgramming - I got onto Audition from a thread in some other forum. Before that I hadn't heard of it and didn't know the history of it's development. So I really can't speak of it's feel or functionality now compared to how it used to be. But for the money it seems a worthy investment, so here I go again :)
