Hi

I'm planning to buy equipment to build up a home recording studio and thougt that this would be the place to post the topic to get some usefull opinions about what to get.

Is this a good setup that will work fine together and of a quality that i will be satisfied with when I'm getting more exipirenced?

Mixer: Allen & Heath WZ16:2DX
Monitors: Genelec 8040A
Audio Interface: M-Audio Delta 1010

Im a newbie so any help would be fantastic! (alternatives welcome)

Thanx for taking the time to answer my question! (if someone ever will :D )

Your basic setup looks like a fine start. Maybe a decent pair of headphones.
More importantly.
Learn your recording space ie: what mics sound cool- in what rooms. If this is a home setup, then try every room in the house. Vocals in the bathroom, gtr in the stair-well, drums in the living room ect ect...

Focus on using what you have to hone your skills. Read everything you can get your hands on and ask as many questions as you need, right here on RO.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Thats a very subjective question...who can say what will be happening in 5 years. The mics will always be ...um...mics...so they'd last...the board may change as you grow...the delta will probably be able to be replaced in a year as technology grows and quality goes down in price...the Genelecs are timeless.

I've been buying and selling gear for the past 5 years now and haven't kept many items. Unless you find the sound that you like, you will continue to experiment with new gear and that would mean letting go of some of your equipment. My suggestion is to buy your gear used on ebay from reputable seller with good feedback. If you don't like the item, sell it back on ebay. Many project studio owners are going this route these days. There is a lot of gear out there but most will not meet our personal requirements so we just need to get informed and then try it out for ourselves.
