I have an HP pavilion w/ a 766mhz Celeron, 512 megs of ram(pc100)and a 20gig hard drive. I had planned on building a new system or having one built strictly for production. I just really want to create music, experiment with live and virtual instruments, and be able to do all of the recording and tweaking etc. primarily on my pc. I also want to be able to burn the final cuts onto a cd and mabey even post them on the internet. I really don't have any experience with pc based music production so I couldn't even begin tell you what kind of equipment I would or wouldn't need.

I would mainly need a connection for a guitar, mic and synthesizer. Is cakewalk any good? (home studio 2002)
