It's not your Patchbay/Router settings it's your Hardware Settings. On the Hardware Settings tab change "All Inputs" to Consumer (if you're set at -10) or +4 (if you're set at Consumer). The +4 setting compensates for higher incoming voltage levels from pro-level outboard gear by reducing the signal level.

If that doesn't fix the problem then take a look at the output of the last outboard device in your signal chain as being too hot. If you can lower those settings (with a +4 or -10 switch...or output control) without sacrificing tone then you're good to go. If not then you might want to consider a compressor between that device and the 24/96.

You could also try lowering the channel fader in your multi-track software for the incoming channel if that's where you're clipping.

Are you clipping in the m-audio mix monitor? Or are you clipping in your tracking software?

Im clipping in my tracking software....im not to sure about the monitor mixer

I kept the audiophiles virtual mixers levels at MAX, whilst controlling the incoming level with my mixers preamp gain and line level gain.

You can pull the level down at the software stage within your sequencer, but shouldn't need to.

I did have problems with my audiophile clicking and popping a few years ago for a coupla months. Took a while to get it resolved: you're sure its not this?

It turned out my card was sharing IRQ with my mouse, and causing all manner of problems with noise that could've been heard as digital clipping.

It was solved by removing the M audio card, and moving it to another PCI slot in the PC.

To help further, more info is need about your mixer, and the stages your I/P takes toi get to your HD app.

Caisson, did any of those suggestions resolve the issue?

im not really sure it helped it gave me some things to look at though. My grace 101 is at 0db's and I use the aux knob on channel 1 to control the volume or size of the signal. If I turn down the signal to much than its muffled, and if I open it up to much that it clips. I stop using my compressor because I wanted a clear signal, but I think I might just goahead and get a new interface with XLR inputs, and bypass the mixer so I don't have too many volume or imput controls.

this is for Coyote, now about the consumer/ -10 thing you talked about. Im wondering for my input of vocals should I have it set at CONSUMER or -10 ?

Setting your 24/96 panel to -10 will increase the volume level of all your incoming signals.

If your working with a Grace101 pre I would definitely recommend taking the mixing board out of your configuration and go directly into your soundcard.

The mixer is just going to muck up the beautiful signal you're getting frm the Grace. The mixer "can" add unwanted color and noise.

What kind of HW compression are you using?

Not the best equiptment but I was using a Samson C COM 16 Stereo Compressor/Limiter, but I took it out. I have gotten advice to take out my mixer, but my mixer has the XLR's so i'll have to upgrade my interface........but check this out if you can

If you look at the bottom of each track there's a CR/phones level and then a Master CR/Phones level, and then next to it is a St Level (Red knob)......now my aux(blue knob) is what I control my imput signal with. if I open it too much is clips and if I close it too much it sounds muffled...I haven't tried this but I believe I might be clipping because I have the ST level (Red knob) to high. I believe it send to much gain to the interface???

consumer vs pro

so my Mackie CFX 16 would be considered consumer right? therefore on my delta 1010 i have it set to -10, not +4...is that right? i too have problems with clipping sometimes....ive learned how to overcome that, but it feels strange to have to set all my trims down to about 3/4 or so.
