Quick background: I use this old 16 ch board to mainly record drums. Signal path into two Delta 1010's into my M-powered Pro Tools setup. After reading the Soundcraft manual for insight in regard to some level issues, I learned that the ch send is factory set to -10db. The groups are +4, but they are not currently running into the 1010's due to not having another 1010. Well, my thinking is that I would have more headroom (and flexibility) if the ch sends were modded to +4. I'm not a pro when it comes to recording by any means... hey I'm a drummer :lol:
Now that the laughing has died down... Are there any justifiable reasons why I shouldn't cut that resistor and make the ch sends +4? I mean, aren't most professional boards ch sends already +4? Everything in line will comply with the chg to +4 and there is no -10 gear being used.

You'll never want to go back. If you have to interface a -10 device, feed it into an unused compressor and/or limiter and use it for the makeup gain. Plus, you might like the coloration that the makeup gain device may add to an otherwise abysmal sounding -10 toy device.
+4 all the way baby! With headroom to +28 DBm into 600 ohms. Oh yeah!

I did one of those mods on a Spirit Studio years ago for someone who needed +4 but wanted to retain -10 (can't imagine what for). I extracted one end of each resistor from the board and inserted one pole of a Molex 0.1" 2-pin header in the hole. The other pole of the header went to the lifted end of the resistor. I supplied him with a bag of 0.1" jumpers (like the drive select jumpers on the back of an ATA disk drive) to fit if he ever wanted to revert. My guess is that he still has them all in the bag.

Well, I did it and I can say that I would never go back. My only initial concern was that (since I bought the board used) there might be a "gear phantom" terrorizing me after I made the mod. I figured since I was there already, I'd pull out the master board and do the 2trk mod to +4 also.
