I have been using a NS-10 set for years. But I am working in a new place now, and we have Genelec 1030A monitors here. I have only this to say about the Genelec monitors for mixing: THEY SUX
What I am trying to figure out is what monitors I should go for now. Genelec is out of the question.
Has anyone tested the new Yamaha active monitors?

I am looking for a pair of monitors for my home studio. I need something not so expensive, maybe under 1K for the pair. I was told that Tannoy Reveal Actives where good and they cost like 600... Any other suggestions? What do you guys think of the Tannoys?
Thanks
Manuel

I have a pair of NS-10's which I hate. i just never got used to them. I also have a apair of Event 20/20's which I find a little boxy sounding and a little hyped in the low end. I am looking for something in the price range of $1,500 or less. I've been looking into the KRKV8's or the V88's any opinions?

Allright... all you people that posted more than one pair and didn't mention your favs, go ahead and do so. One of the benefits of this kind of thing is hearing that a number of you DONT like the Genelecs (surpise!), or that MOST people like so-and-so monitors. So... have at it! :)

I’m pretty surprised at the negative Genelec opinion as well. Could some of you folks that don’t like them maybe elaborate as to why more specifically? Personally I’m very happy with my 1030A’s but then again they are my first pair of “pro” monitors.
I admit I did not get a chance to directly a/b them against other brands in the same room but compared them through memory of those others that I have heard in “real” studios.
Also, I do always "reality" check my mixes on my car system and a pair of big and ugly (but great sounding) sealed home builts.

I find the Genelecs very synthetic sounding, the bass isn't very detailed, the treble is very harsh and unmusical which may be down to the metal tweeter, I prefer the sound of silk domes. Although they sound very flat and should therefore be great for mixing, they just sound dead and lifeless rather than transparent.
Hope that helps!

I had bought Genelec 1031A's some 5 years ago based on their reputation alone. I could not have easily tried them (or any alternatives) before and they were getting great reviews... At first listening I felt something was plain wrong and further listening only reinforced the impression.
The most obvious and intolerable problem was that limiter thing behind the tweeters, not subtle at all. I tried rotating them, moving them around, but they just sounded false. Sold them after 3 months. I bought my present favourite monitors based on a two-day long comprehensive audition at the AES show. Don't trust the reviews anymore.

GUYS! I am a happy man again. I went out and bought a 100 dollar crappy technics speakerset. Remember I was desperate 'cause I totally fucked up a mix just because of my damn Genelec 1030A monitors.
I am not kidding Guys, my technics monitors have the exact sound of my old NS-10. I used them last night to mix a 250 per. large gospel choir and the mix is as close to perfect as a live consert can be.
I am amaced. I dont have the model number here, but I'll get back later today and then I'll have the model number.

I use Tannoy SRM 10Bs and Genelec 1030As. I've got a pair of Behringer Truths on the way too.
The Tannoys are excellent, the Genelecs I'm getting to despise more and more.
