You can't have more than 18 inputs on the 002.
4 are already there, 4 can come from another 4 channel pre (Sytek for example, http://www.sytek-audio-systems.com/products/preamps/mpx4/), another 8 can be added from an optical output pre (Mackie Onyx for example but I'm not a big fan, do your research). You have another 2 channels of S/PDIF.

i use the digimax LT by presonus / good quality pre's at a reasonable price. i think right now they are between 500-600 dollars. They use lightpipe and have worked well for me thus far.
