Well that's a nice desk if I do say so! Its the first I've heard of it. I'm not familiar with PT or Nuendo, being a Logic user myself.

Maybe if you cite your reasons for looking at another DAW besides the one you have now, we could give you some advice.

Well I currently am using a PT Mix3 system. I need an upgrade. To upgrade Protools I would need 3 x 192 I/Os plus a full HD3 or Accel sytem. All said and done just for Protools will be over $20k. Not to mention the interfacing device for the Euphonix. I'm not sure what that would run but I would need to go AES into the console. No Nuendo directly interfaces with the system 5. I uses 1 MADI card for conversion into the computer. This means no 192 I/Os. The MADI card is around $1000 plus Nuendo $1000. I'll be saving over $20k. Plug ins are cheaper and from what I've heard Nuendo arguably sounds better. Anyone using both or have switched?

the main concern for me if I were looking at that set-up is how well implemented is the Euphonix with Nuendo. They have always had problems interfacing with hardware controllers. This might change with the update coming out this month, but there is still basic implementation in this area that is just gone (such as pan).

I would get yourself somewhere where you can demo and make sure these basic features are working properly...

You may be better off sticking with your current rig and waiting for 3.0 to hit (which will be a while). I think 3.x will see fixed hardware controller support as well as cures for some pretty big bugs (depending on how you work... or work-a-round). a few of the bigger issues as of right now are:

no input monitoring (you have input monitoring on the inputs... but not on the tracks so if you route an input to a track of a different number it can make it difficult in a larger tracking situation to make sure things are happening as they should be)

audio that is layered on top of each other will sometimes randomly play a different layer instead of the one on top as it should. This can bite you in the ass if you aren't careful...

certain issues with 48k when using an external clock source (although this may be MOTU related, it seems some users report problems with other cards/drivers as well...)

I've heard nothing but great things about the RME MADI solutions.

I've used/seen Nuendo in action a couple times - it's a pretty solid and feature-packed program. The only issue I have is that Pro Tools, for various reasons, still seems to be what most people like to see when they walk into the studio. I'd suggest, that even if you do switch to Nuendo, you try to maintain some type of Pro Tools system so that you can still offer it to clients - even if it's only there as a backup in terms of importing sessions, etc.

yep.. or at least go get a digi001 to stuff in the corner so when they ask, "do you have protools?" you can say... "yeah... show me the money..."

One certainly has the nicer interface, and I don't think I have to say which one...
