Hi everyone!

I write only to know from more experienced people if this is normal. I've moved from logic to Cubase (yeah, another irritated by MAC-LOGIC policy), and I bought a new M-audio audiophile USB, which was very a well considered card in terms of latency and audio quality.

I am using Cubase sx2, and optimized my computer, so I get 3,6ms of in latency and 5,6ms of out latency (I suppose it's a good number). My problem is that sometimes, If i charge some samples on Sampletank or halion, or (this is where happens the most) if I minimize and, for example, reproduce an mp3 with Win Media, ehen I go back to Cubase, Latency has gone much much up and I must reset the ASIO controller to get it down again.

I'd only like to know if this happens to everyone, and if you know any solution.

Try finding an application that will restore and defrag your RAM. Sometimes windows holds on to the RAM for a certain app long after it's closed.
Trouble with these RAM clearers is that it might clear some RAM for the program you're trying to use. So after defragging the RAM, make sure that the program is running smoothly before you hit record.
I can't guarantee that this will work, but it's my only guess.
Or you could just buy more RAM. How much have you got now?

I'm not the most technical minded in this side of things, but I read in my Audiophile 2496 manual that in your control settings panel, on the hardware settings page, there is a 'Single and In-Sync' option and a 'Independant' setting.
They say the latter setting is mainly used when more than one application is going to use the soundcard.
Am I wrong in assuming media player uses the soundcard?
