I have a Question i see you use DP and have been wanting a control surface.I also have a DP setup on dual g4 and have a hui at the moment but am considering returning it because i find my self still with the mouse in my hand.I have dual monitors 19 inch so i can open my mix across one monitor and work pretty easy.My question is do you mix with a mouse also or are you using a board i would like some input please seeing that a hui returned means a Flamingo at my doorstep.Really would like to know how any other guys with similar setups get by also.
Thanks
BT

i dunno, cant really answer that for you. i dont have a mixing surface for DP yet... im still looking. i like the HUI the best out of what is out right now but cant deal with the lack of expandability with more faders [i need more than just 8, call me crazy but when i get a controller i want to look at the board more than the screen to see whatnot] i have been using the graphical editor for just about everything... sometimes i will use various controllers if its something i need to "perform".

im getting rather anxious to get some controller [even contemplating going over to PT to get the procontrol :D]

Thanks for the reply .I like to try to mix with my ears not my eyes and that is the problem without faders.Mackie is discontinuing the hui because they can't get the chips used to make it anymore so it's shit or get off the pot.I can't stand logic it is a total vibe kill jackin around with all the enviorments and such and i have already been the pro tools route and can't take there BS either. There is always a catch no matter what way you decide to build around and that to is a vibe killer!

Alphajerk, Have you gotten a chance to check out Nuendo for Mac yet. I understand that it is now available. Just curious about your impressions. Steinberg's Houston controller looks pretty nice, for my needs. It's both midi and USB. They've promised delivery of my new Houston within a month. Information is still pretty difficult to find on houston, but I like what I've seen so far (especially the rotary pot position indicator lights), enough to commit to one. I'll be replacing motormix. Since the Houston is MIDI also, it might be usable with DP. Looks like the houston will be expandable as well, but no info on that yet.

does the houston have a talkback/monitor center section? i saw that it had expander packs. i havent gotten to play on nuendo yet but its going to be difficult to get me off DP now, its just written so well with really strong implementation of its various interfaces.

i really wish motu would come out with a dedicated controller but i dont think its going to happen. once digi's hold gets taken on the interfaces, that might be enough to move over to a PT system.

I'm not sure about talkback, but have you looked at the JL Cooper stuff? It's modular, and they have one set with moving faders and one without. Looks to be probably the most customizable 3rd party thing out there.

i dont like the SAC2k ergonomically. its not designed with total intent for use with DP either. too compromised for other platforms. and no "center section".

have you seen the http://www.mixedlogic.com ? i figured id mention it while we were bringing up all the options right now. i dont feel confident in a 3rd party control surface. if the HUI was expandable i would get one. its the closest of the bunch IMO.
