I just purchased the Fender Custom 60s pickup set and I'm trying to replace my pickups. I can figure out the wiring fine except for the little plates that the pickups sit on also have a wire soldered to them. One plate has a long metal stem (about 3 inches) coming from the center of the plate.
My questions are:
What do you solder the wires to?
What do you do with that metal stem?
What's the best way to make room for the bridge pickup? It a little bit longer than the Mexican one.
Is there a diagram for the replacement pickup somwhere? I've looked on the Fender web site but they just show the wires coming from the pickups themselves, not the plates that they sit on.

I posted my question about 3 weeks ago. I've already installed the PUPs, but thanks for the reply. I did post on the bass forums and also got no response. I got my answer from a kid at the local Guitar Center here in Arlington Texas, of all places. Seymour Duncan's site had nothing that came close to explaining what the extra leads and stem were for. Their tech support sucks, and so does the one for Fender. They didn't have a freakin' clue what I was talking about. They reffered me to a local authorized dealer who acted like I was aksing him for the secret of iternal life or something.
If I didn't love music so much I would quit this business cause I hate musicians! We're such a Pretentious bunch.

You might also consult one of the bass forums. Search for the Dudepit, the FEnder Forum, or Talkbass.com. There are lot's of helpful people on all these sites.
