I think that is a pretty awesome setup for starters.

Definitely stay away from NS-10's. I never liked them and if you don't need your stuff to translate in a bunch of different studios there is no point IMHO.

I always liked mackie monitors, events and KRKs for budget project studio stuff. If you already have an amp you can get alesis monitor 1's and 2's for a song. Get an eq to run inline (before power amp/speakers) and "flatten" your control room/ listening position out the best you can with an RTA/generator/eq type devise. I did mine with just pink noise and a multiband db meter and a good old fashioned yammy *yamaha* stereo eq. Sounds great and translates well onto anything you play your stuff on.

Your software probably has some compression or limiter plugs. You can try those. My favorite compressors for the money are behringer. RNC's are great I've heard also. Usually if I need to compress something I go into my Joe Meek SC2. I'd try to stay away from using much compression if you can.

You need a board to monitor with- i know they have all these fancy rack boxes now (Eureka?), but I like mixing boards and faders. I've done a good share of DAW recording and I prefer doing it old school (that's just me though). I like Muckie boards- especially the older gritty ones that are missing a few knobs. Tascam, Ramsa and Yamaha are all nice. I have a Behringer 4 channel POS that I also use. The sky is the limit wth mixing boards.

But yeah, if you can make your system run smooth, you definitely have the hardware to make some kick butt demos.

421's kick ass.
I have a one and a couple of 441's which I like even better.

you're going to die lonely and miserable with that attitude. you should never of have been born. i hope your parents didnt bring you up this way. i can say this with full honesty.. i am not the least bit jealous of your system. im really not. id rather die being a happy middle class american with friends and a positive outlook on life than be brought up on money and have that buy me "happiness".

i was in a world class studio once. it was the bbs studio 1.

like, a neve capricorn for starters, i think there was 2 or 3 of them in different rooms.....

a completly seperate room, housing electronics, and special room for the 500,000 lexicon 480L.....

about 2.5 million dollars, in gear.......

about 7 big red tool boxes, filled with more mics, in each shelf , then you are old.....

One that mackie console is not a "world class" studio mixer because i have yet to see a world class studio with one in it. And you know what Im 15 and im building my own recording studio from a loan i got and opening my own record label (Conspiracy Records) with a recording studio selling studio time to local bands and me and a good friend already have a local computer service Atcomp computer services and i work part time at a grocery store and im a sophomore in high school. I got the loan from my father and i have 2 and a half years to pay back $25,000. I pitty you and your horrible out look on life and calling people lowly your a spoiled brat who prob hasnt earned anything you own your prob that rich kid who for his first guitar got a $6000 Gibson Les Paul or a $3000 Fender and said "DADDY I WANT A STUDIO" and daddy went and bought it for you. And dont get me wrong im not poor but im not rich the only reason why my father can afford to do this is because we just sold a house that we had on long island that my parents fixed up to look nice and moved to Mass. where housing is much cheaper so go away no one cares about your WORLD CLASS STUDIO!
