Can we get some clarification on which meaning for some of those words... Well all of them.
Store. Like the grocery store?
Network. Circle of friends?
Render. Coating the outside walls with concrete?

Remy, there is always depth to your humor.
New forum created to learn more about the title: Store. Network.
New forum created to learn more about the title: Store. Network. Render.
Created to stimulate high end workstation users, maybe more from the pro gaming industry. To learn more about the specifics in high end workstation hardware, helpful for high end DAW systems. An area that is growing and detailed.
I want to know more about networking multiple computers together. What makes a dedicated master computer, and what makes a dedicated sampler systems tuned for holding large libraries working at high sample rates?
I want to learn more about specific storage systems and how to optimize it all together in a large network.
We are going to be using chains of computers for making killer music.

I had a thought on that one time...
Most of it was going to be hacked together using linux (besides the JACK audio system being awesome) - there are ways to route audio over a network using a program, with one buffer of latency. Of course, there are VSTs to do the same job.
And as with all things, I aim for the best and create the worst.
I've created a monster! But nobody wants to see monsters no more, they want shady...

When doing audio for video. Do you load the finished video into the sound designers system?
On the rare occasions I have done this, I've been both of the people. Typically I slap a mp3 as an irrelevant backing and loosely match clips.
However I have twice made audio productions alongside it (in the least professional fashion ever). I did the audio first, and put the finished track onto the video project.

If you're doing audio for video then aren't you the sound designer? If you're the sound designer for a video production wouldn't it be best to have the video to cue from?
The question is kind of vague.
Is it film you are working with, or digital video? Are you animating?
Is it music or speech and sound effects? How was the sound created?
I'm guessing it's a digital world full of material girls. So you're using a mix of animation and digital video and the music and sound effects are all digital too.
So why not have both in the one box?

I suppose images are a form of record, so could photography be recording? What about writing, recording words?Let's expand.
exactly my point. The days of one computer running the show are looking like it was with a few external hard drive 10 years ago to run PT 24. As I'm reading more about the new audio Impressions DVZ system, listening to guys like Chris Stone talk about how they store their sounds, what you need to have for high end DAW systems are a rack of computers. 7 computers in a chain is not a suprise for guys scoring. There is a lot to learn.
Example, Mac for sequencing, 2, 3, 4 core2 running windows for the library, a controller CPU for ... the system software and additional systems for running animation/ Avid Final Cut etc if you are doing this as well.. They all need to talk to each other, and use HD to put the data. All that plus new wireless routers other goodies to link it all up.
External FireWire Drives, High-Performance SATA Fibre Channel RAID array for uncompressed HD, Collaborative Storage with Apple and Avid Project Sharing, incl Windows. This whole process has me digging in now and a new forum for this area sounds timely.
I thought I had a handle on this. Blade servers allow more processing power in less rack space, simplifying cabling and reducing power consumption.
Sounds like fun eh. Looks like we need a few mods for this forum.

This thread would be good. I've often wondered how I was going to tie together my three desktop workstations with my 2 laptops & 12 external hard drives? Maybe get some parallel processing going for faster video rendering? Too bad I'm not into gaming, otherwise I'd be making sound effects. Actually I am this evening since I had chili for dinner with lots of beans. All sorts of explosions! And nothing anybody would want to capture. Especially in 5.1.

I dunno Remy...
