Is there any U 67 soundalike?

Hi,

I recently got to hear an U 67 - f**king sh*t, I am scared! What a beautiful sound. The Mids! Natrual, yet beautifully coloured, nice rolled off top, so smooth and what a big sound! I am pretty sure they are hard to find and if I'd find one, they are surely way out of my budget. But is there any soundalike ( i don't ecpect that class, but something similar) given a budget of around 2k?

Best,

UTS

The ADK A51 TC (tube model single pattern around $599) is modeled to sound like the 67. (actually there non tube mics which sell for around 299 are also meant to sound like 47s but I prefere the tube model. Anyways back to the tube version, I can't say that it's a perfect reproduction because I haven't ever tried them back to back. But the A51 is close. I love mine and use it when I want that Temptations kinda sound. Very soulful sounding. I've tried a lot of mics in that price range and for vocals it is my favorite. Beats the heck out of RODE NTK and I even like it better than the Neumann 103. I usually switch between it and my Lawson's MP47 for vocals.

A mic that sounds like which U67 ?

Put 4 U67s in a row and each one will sound different. They range from kind of nice to incredible. The problem is if you buy one without testing it you can pay a premium vintage price for a pretty average mic.

The Lawsons and the Soundelux mics are the way to go these days in my opinion.

Kirk,

i'm sure there is more qualified people.... around

here than me for talking about this but the U-67 is a way less "problematic " microphone compared to, let's say, another classic the U -47 (expecially the early ones with M7)

It's true that there will be some difference between a well mantained 67 and another not in the same shape but overall two cleaned and in good conditions 67's sound really pretty much the same.

I'm lucky enough to own a pair and, believe me, i've spent some time in front of the two..checking

and listening to any subtle possible diff.

I could not really hear any in all the patterns.

and is the same these days.

These microphones,if in spec., were not made in a way to possibly sound different one from the other....

Never tried 4 though... Jo

Thanks guys for the comments. I have heard of the Soundelux mics, but in Germany they don't have any distribution I think. Never seen them here around. Han, thanks for your help, but 3200 Euro is way out of my budget. I could stretch it to 2000 Euro, but anything more is out of reach.

Coldsnow, would you be so kind and point me towards these ADK Mics - do they have any homepage or something?? Would be darn kool.

Thanks again and best,
