I own a presonus and the FP10 is a very versatile interface. When I was in the position you are in, considering where to start, I decided that if I was going to get wet to jump all the way in. I bought the FP10. I originally thought I'll only need one maybe two channels, but for the added money less than 50% more I would go with 8. It is a decision that I never regretted, in fact I'm am very happy. There has not been a post here I can remember where someone has said "Why did I buy 8 channels I never use them?" In fact it seems to be the other way around. So if you have the budget go with an 8 channel interface.
That being the case if the FP10 is your choice (and it is certainly not the only choice in this range) for a 8 ch. interface you should post your computer's exact specs and firewire set up in the computers thread because Presnus sems to only work well with certain FW chipsets.
Of the other three the TC unit has been getting good reviews from some of the more experienced guys here. Though I don't think there is really a clear division in the quality of these three units from the reviews here.

Just make sure you investigate the compatibility of your computers. It used to be that Digidesign were the only ones notorious for this but it seems that Presonus has started their own list as well. Really all interfaces and software have their compatibility issues but Digi has a track record for this. Nothing worse than buying something that is not supported on your system.

FWIW -
I have and use a Konnekt 24D. It makes for a GREAT interface, especially given its price, portability and availability of bus powering. It sucks that the built-in effects can't be rendered in a final wave like other VST effects, but the pres are great, the conversion is great, the software is pretty decent...a winner in my book.
I obviously still prefer my FireFace800 for the heavy lifting, but for smaller jobs, the TC is a perfect fit!

Very true, but I don't know if it's really due to a higher rate of hardware/software conflicts, or the fact that Digidesign works harder than most, diligently testing and documenting compatibility issues.

I bought the first version of the Mbox to use with my laptop, for those times when transporting the bigger PT desktop system wasn't practical. I've been very satisfied with it.

That said, I think any of your choices would be solid. All other things being equal I'd get as many inputs as I could. Like jp49 says, if you're like most people, you'll soon find yourself wishing you had more than 4 channels.

Hmm I'm probably gonna decide between the konnekt 24d and the presonus fp10 but I don't know pros and cons between those two.

Presonus just released a slew of new drivers for both 32 bit and 64 bit OS's. If you were having problems, this might be the fix.

I run both (not at the same time) into a Vista 32 laptop.

I think you would be happier with the Presonus.
For starters, even my out of practice and non-finicky ear can hear the difference in the mic pres. Without even putting them next to each other, just remembering the Presonus sound I can tell the Mbox is a little lacking.

In my opinion, the Mbox2 is DOES win out against an onboard soundcard. But only slightly. Phantom power, and a couple of pad switches barely make it worth the headache I went through finding/try to install/making work the standalone driver (I'm running Cubase, not Pro Tools). I look at it as fancy cable adapter.

Presonus is not without it's headaches, but overall, I found them much easier to get up and running.

And Presonus was really good about getting their updates out.

If you think 8 channels is too much, well that's just silliness.

I hear the 24D is great but how much of a difference is there between the two?

I agree with Jammster - start a new topic.
However, I do own and use the 24D. It and the 8D are identical in software, preamps, conversion. The only difference is the quantity of inputs and outputs.

The sound and usability is fantastic. You'd have to pay a lot more to get even a marginal improvement.
