Can you replicate that sound through plugins? Maybe a distortion with no lows in the EQ?

Well how that mic works, if you checked it out, is there is no response from xHz to Yhz. You can use a multiband EQ and try to cut where your ear tells you you should.

It's definitely mostly mids.

First thing I saw when I saw those big copper mics was "I bet Tom Waits uses them".

And yeah, one of his producers is on their list. 8)

It wouldn't be exactly the same, but recreating that sound with EQ wouldn't be too difficult. Cut out most of the low end, then maybe take another notch out of the mids, but leave a little bit of top end for clarity and sparkle.

You might want to add a little overdrive as well, just to get that old-school sound.

If you're using software, I'd recommend PSP Vintage Warmer. It's got a lovely warm saturation which will distort your voice ever-so-slightly 9if used minimally) to get the kind of bluesy tone that I think you're after.

Yeah. I just have to monkey around with the mix. Logic gives you so much stuff to play with.. Wont ever try it all.
