the tlm 103 has its fans and its detractors- the fans rave that it has the Neumann sound, the detractors claim is overpriced and not quite the Neumann sound... The c1 and the c3's have a legion of fans. Most claim that they have the Neumann sound in a budget. they actually sound pretty good but sorry they do not sound like the U87, which they are often compared to. I feel that all three mics, the tlm 103, the C1 and the C3, are all worthy mics and I wouldn't kick them out of my mic cabinet.
however if you are strapped for cash, you can get 2 c1's and one c3 for the price of a 103- the best advice is to beg borrow or rent these misc and use your own ears before you buy. Only you knows what's best for your needs and applications.
I'm a TLM103 fan. A U87 it is not, but it is a quality mic in it
I'm a TLM103 fan.
A U87 it is not, but it is a quality mic in its own right. (s'posed to have the same capsule as the U87)
It was a HUGE step up from my MXL V67, and my mate's C1 and CAD E200.
Crystal clear yet full and warm.
I'm using a Buzz Audio SSA1.1 preamp for it which is super clean and very fast.
For the first time my tracks sounded "right" (if you know what I mean).
I want another.
any tip? Talk on the side with the mark on it. Use a pop filter

Talk on the side with the mark on it. Use a pop filter. Connect to a micpre with 48V Phantom Power. Avoid moisture.
