Go to the Full Compass website, click "clearance", then click "hardwired mics, DI", scroll to Audio-Technica, select that, scroll down to the bottom where they list a XMD drum mic package. Does that look like what your buddy wants to sell you? The set of 3 mics is on sale for $50. You decide if that's a good deal... A-T makes a great mic in many instances, but this may not be one of them.

The side of the mic says in this lettering snare/tom. There is no "modle #" brain child. Anybody else care to take a shot at a colleague for asking a totally valid question. If nothing to say then why post a reply?

Went to Full compass but those are not it they are a kit of 4 that is called the DR-DRM 3 snare/tom and 1 Kick/tom in the kit.

Wow I got flamed! Try this website (AT's) they are at least two instrument mics on goosenecks (is that what you mean by "stand")?
Even if your mic is not listed there as it may be a discontinued model it will at least give a clue as to what type of mic it is (in it looks a lot like this but has a different....)

To go a little further, you have both mics, track your Nady and the AT and A/B them. Does it sound better to you? Just because it says snare/tom on it doesn't mean you can't use it for other sources, I have several EV mics that were designed for drum/instrument applications that I really like on vintage guitar cabs at the outside edge of the speaker.

Furthermore anyone who is selling a mic at $20 when most of AT mics list at $200 or more either does not know what they have or probably doesn't value it very much. In either case the care that the mic has received during it's lifetime is very important as well, it might have been a great mic but is it still?
BTW are they blue in color?

I did AB the mic with 3 other mics last night on a very slightly overdriven telecaster out of a small amp. Well I guess ABCD. A 57, a Unidyne III & a NADY. It has a present full bottom end and clean high mids. Nady was all mids. 57 had tight low mids and warm high mids. Unidyne III blew everything out of the water sounded like the 57 but with an extra clarity in the high mids that none of the others have. Made My tele sound expensive. All in all my $20 investment sounds about 50% better than the nady so far. well see what it sounds like on drums cant do that yet ill let yall know. Im not get my hopes up though. On a side note Senn E602 on floor tom KILLER.

Yes, seen and used both live and studio - a friend bought one of those kits years ago.

They're not bad but it's been so long since I've used them that there's no way I could give you a review.

Do some A/B's if you can and post them. It would be nice to hear them on the same source as a 57 and whatever else you can get your hands on...

I'm glad that your investment provided a better mic for you and now that we see the mic kit the $20 price seems more reasonable as these are $40+ new. I think this is AT budget line, nothing wrong with that. In the end no matter what the reviews are if it is a reasonable improvement over what you have hard to beat $20 @ mic, I spent that last night and barely got a half tank of gas.
