hey all,
I'm asking some help with recording a trumpet, but with a twist. We are looking at recording a trumpet with a pickup mic so that it's portable on stage, and processing it through Ableton live /or reason.
I've currently got:
iMac
mbox 2
a condenser, dynamic, ribbon mics
do i need a silent brass system? what kind of mic works with clip onto bells?
thanks in advance!

This isn't responsive since none of these clip on, but I really prefer ribbons or dynamics for trumpet. I'd use the Sennheiser 421 of the mics that I have. My daughter loves the 441, but I have not broken down and gotten one (expensive). If I were on stage and was going to go through a lot of processors I'd probably just use an SM57.

There are numerous rubber isolated trumpet bell mounts already available. They are generally not supplied with wireless belt pack systems. And then there is the microphone that must be chosen. There are plenty of lovely inexpensive and expensive microphones to choose from as the other guys have mentioned. So having capsules from Sony, Sennheiser, Countrymen, AT & others are handy to have an assortment of. So I've invested in all of those also yup, all of those. And you can get that assortment for around the same price as a single DPA. So microphones are our palette of colors even if all you like is chocolate. You know damn well somebody's going to want vanilla or strawberry if not pistachio. But I've never been able to afford to stick a lobster on a trumpet wireless. C'est la vie
I've never tried chocolate covered ants

The [[url=http://[/URL]="http://www.sweetwat…"]DPA 4099T [/]="http://www.sweetwat…"]DPA 4099T [/]is the one I use as a clip-on to a trumpet. For live work, you can use it with a UHF belt pack for ultimate mobility. In a studio, I would never take a recording signal through a radio unit.
