I dont think its possible to beat the eureka. In that price bracket.

For $539 (new) you could grab a focusrite ISA one, which is a beautiful sounding pre. Other than that i dont know of any truly worthwile pres in the price range, considering you have one already. ART makes good stuff in the bracket, but my experiences lean towards the eureka or isa instead.

Kyle's suggestions are right on the money, in both senses.

I would add to the list the Audient Mico, especially if you are looking for a clean, very open sound to work with the old-fashioned tone from the Roswell. Although the Mico is now discontinued, they can be found in dealer stocks, sometimes at considerably below original price.

In that price range, I'd check golden age and warm audio but frankly, the ISA is hard to beat with 80db of clean gain.
Unless you can find a used Grace audio or millennia or mico or Daking, I'd go with the ISA. I have 8 of them and love their clean sound with a touch of mojo...

BTW good pick with the mini 47. The K47 capsule has a very good frequency curve and very sweet high frequencies. It takes EQ like a charm !
