hi Sebatron . i'm very pleased with my vmp-2000e.
out of all my preamps that includes an API and Neve copy i turn to the seb as my goto preamp first.i sometimes wonder if i should have got 4000e for the extra channels.it certainly has made my recordings another level.
do you recommend any particular mics for acoustic guitar ?
can you recommend a suitable compressor to match/?
what else have you got up you sleeve.?

Not sure what it means exactly but U87ai's were manufactured begining in the 90's earlier models were designated U87 ... so it designates the latest version as of this writing ...

I did a search for the benefit of curious minds,
this is what i got from the Neumann website:
The letter A in the name indicates a more recent generation, as compared to the U 87 i microphones that were built from 1967 to 1986. Modifications apply to the electronic components of the microphone only; the capsule remained unchanged.
I like the U87ai with the VMP .... I have used the Manley EL OP
