I recently downloaded a trial plugin of Native Instruments Reaktor Player. This plugin is more like a plugin platform than an instrument. However, it comes with 3 instruments. One of those instruments is called Newscool. You can download the trial and check out Reaktor here:

When I started playing with this thing, I was like "God damn, this is exactly how I want my beats to sound". It's great for creating an IDM/Glitchy kind of sound. However, there are a couple of drawbacks that I found. 1) It seems to create beats randomly: you draw pictures on a grid and it seems to beats based on this. 2) I can't figure out how to get the beats in to the midi track.

On point one, I'm looking for a drum synth that sounds like Newscool but gives me more control. I.e. I want to know where I am putting accents, decide which kinds of noises get played when and where etc. On the second point, the instrument is pretty useless if it can't be sent to the midi track and edited note by note.

So my questions are: a) Am I missing something? Is there a way to move the notes from the instrument to the midi track? b) Is there a more robust plugin which achieves what Newscool does? It seems like a great paradigm to use some randomness to create beats, but it seems a bit gimmicky and not enough control. General comments on this topic would be great.
