Hi there
How long may be a firewire cable running through the wall and connecting my 1814 to DAW... I actually use a 3 feets cable but my computer is so noisy I just want to put it on the other side of the wall running a long firewire cable.
Thanks a lot

Can someone please explain the difference between firewire 400, 800 and the texas instrument?
I have heard of 4 pin, and I believe 6 or 8pin firewire...are they all the same connector or do i need to by adapters...would an adapter work?
which one is most commonly used with audio gear?
thanks

fw400 was the original spec and it's rate is 400mps and originally used the 4 pin cable the 6 pin cable came a bit later and allowed for bus powering units...
fw800 transmits at 800mps.. for now atleast... the spec IIRC goes up to 3gbps.. but hasn't been fully implimented as of yet... fw800 uses the 8 pin cable... as to the TI concerns... it seems that some interfaces dont play well with some chip sets (VIA for one) and so it's become a matter of recomending the TI chipsets...

Kingsix,
I'm using a 12 footer for my FW1082 w/ no problems. I also have a 15' one I used for digital video and it worked fine there. I'm not sure what the practical limit is, but I'd sure like to know. I'd like to be able to take my controller into a second room for drum tracking.
