Hey Guys,
A little random I know.
I'm very fortunate to very shortly be receiving a Neumann U47 from Telefunken. I really want the same sort of quality and character of the vocal sound as found on many Michael Buble records...
As I mentioned, It's unmistakably a U47 mic, but is there anyone that could venture a guess to what pre-amp they think has been used his his vocals? I know certain brands have different flavours but I have a Focusrite 430 P/Pack and it's not the warm valve sound that i require...
Anyone that can make a suggestion will be a star!
Thanks
Kai

The best way to get a Michael Buble sound is to hire Michael Buble. If you don't sound like him, you won't with any preamp. If you do, you'll sound like him with any preamp.
The Michael Buble CD my wife has is heavily distorted throughout the entire album. Is this the sound you're after?

Thanks for your reply, however i just want to clear up, i'm not trying to sound like Michael Buble vocally.. This post was more in relation to eq and sound character. Not vocal impersonation. I do have a similar tone to buble and do very similar type songs to his stuff and would just like advice on preamps that would compliment that sort of stuff. For example, im thinking a neve 1073? Is that a good choice? I know it's safe, but are there better options

personal experience with an U47 (original) and an LMNOPre has been quite impressive, but since I've never really listened to Buble, I don't really know the sound you're looking for.
If it's a good mic, and the source is good, so long as it's a half-decent preamp, you'll sound fine.
/if you want to have some real fun, Horch RM2J with LMNOPre is rather versatile

More interesting discussion on analog and his sound. I've been in this studio and it was an incredible experience.

wExcellent article. The fact that the Fayed custom-built mic pres are the only two left in the entire world as well as the U47 used on the Buble sessions is a 'vintage' U47 also speaks to its undoubtedly unique footprint.
