Hey all, looking for a decent, light-weight single bass cab to compliment the svt-3 pro head i'm making payments on. I gig tested the head, it's nothing more, or less, than i need. It will be used on gigs (usually 100 person capacity), and in the studio i work at. Even though i will go D.I in both cases, i will mic the cab in the studio for some of that sound if needed. Live it's just a monitor for me.
I've been looking at a single 15" from ampeg, and the newer model that has a HF driver as well, with crossover.
My budget is pretty meager around $400. I've looked into similar cabinets from avatar, and carvin. I don't mind a beat cab, or blown speaker, i'll just refinish/replace stuff.
Would love some recommendations to check out before i make a purchase.
It's a 3 pc 70's type blues rock band, w/ guitar playing a jcm 900 thru 2x12. thinking 15" speaker could offer some stage boom w/out messing w/ gTRS mid rangey sound. but since were usually w/in 6' of our amps, wondering if 4x10 type might be right. Sinced our p.a is 2 15's w/ 1" tweeters, so definition will reach the crown=d.
I've been playing guitar for 15 years (mesa full stack ibanez sz prestige), but bass is about 6mo. new to me.
Thanks for any links/advice.

Probably not very helpful to kmetal, but I'll toss out a description of what I've been using as a bass rig. I've gone very light weight. For a cab I use the [="http://www.bergantino.com/"]Bergantino HD112[/]="http://www.berganti…"]Bergantino HD112[/]. Head is a [[url=http://="http://www.genzbenz…"]Genz-Benz Shuttle 9.0[/]="http://www.genzbenz…"]Genz-Benz Shuttle 9.0[/]. For something so light (my wife refers to the little padded carrying case as "your 900-watt man purse") it sounds great. Loud. Clear. Yes, it doesn't have the beef of a big iron rig, but I'm not trying to push as much air these days. And it's nice to be able to carry bass, head, and cabinet into the gig in one trip.

thanks a ton fellas! Dave, should i be skeptical of the about the life span of the head? it is used, but according to shop owner they guy is an upright bassist mostly, but still 5 years doesn't seem like that long for an amp to last... And it's also a discontinued model. I tend to purchase tried & true type things because my budget takes a while to accumulate. so while i own some expensive stuff i expect it to last, and while 800 isn't the most expensive bass head out there, it's approaching it. which is fine sonically, but now i'm a bit concerned longevity wise, since there are many more things i'd rather use money for than replacing an amp w/in the next few years.
Bob, i too like to pack light, i got sick of moving my 280lbs. full stack around, now it lives at the studio, and i drive a civic, and kinda messed by back up landscaping a few years ago, not crippled, but i 'feel' it a bit. Those cabs look super nice, and i live in mass! gonna contact them about prices, custom work, before i pull the trigger on anything.
much appreciated!

If you look to the internet you'll find a few incidences of exactly what happened to mine. There is a linking circuit between the preamp (tube) and the power amp (solid state) ....Apparently this linkage can go south. Apparently, the complex nature of the amp itself makes it an expensive and difficult repair even for those who have the know-how. I took mine to two shops both of which refused to repair it. I sold it as a parts amp and bought a TC Electronics BH500 which I'm happy with. I have nothing but good things to say about Ampeg but there are the rare occasion such as mine that makes you go hmmmmmm......BTW, mine failed while at a gig and we were on break so there was nothing pushing the amp at the time. So, it was one of those anomolies. Also....I like the TC better and recently I heard a friends Mark Bass head....5lbs. 500 watts. AMAZING.
