Hi there sound gurus,
I was wondering if there were any particular pieces of gear you use often. I am thinking of the un glamorous things, like a particular DI box, or an old dbx 263x. The little things you find your self using time and again.
Coolio.
Peace

OMG - instruments count as gear in my world - and i have ALWAYS wanted a Les Paul Custom - especially a 1978 edition - in fact - i would do almost anything to lay my hands on one...........
Now where exactly again was it that you said you were from? ;)

I got it at a local music store. The owner sold his favorite guitar so he could move to a new location. It is probably my favorite guitar I've ever played and i own it! It doesnt sound like the other Les Pauls I've played. It's more clear. And customs are know for being muddy at times! It plays like a dream too. A friend asked me if I strung it with 9's or 10's. I use 11's. And he plays a les paul!

Awe man... Don't take all the fun out of this thread...
My Moog Parametric 3 band... cheap, and essential to a lot of my bass sound.
The MP-2 Mic Pre (* Which I endorse... don' get it twisted)... Has been on my vocal chain since I got it. Cleanest TUBE pre I've ever heard. Love it.
Sytek / Neotek Mic Max... When I track drums, it's important for me to have different contrasting tonalities. The Sytek fits in there nicely. Needless to say, I'm a huge Neotek fan. I'm almost always in SSL/Neve rooms and I miss that sound so I get the best of all worlds with the Sytek and Neotek pre's I got.
Reddi Tube DI... For years the Demeter Tube Direct was my shiznit... The Reddi has an extra 2 octaves on the low end and I belief and extra one on the top end. Whatever, it just kicks ass. I just spent 30 minutes doing multiple passes through it on an R&B session with all synth gear. It's heavy as balls (monster of an input transformer) and built like a tank (I have an actual photo of someone drivin' an SUV over it on a dare somewhere). Can't see myself getting the same results with anything else.
SM57... Okay, everyone knows this... but how many times have you tried every other mic you got and the 57 was perfect?
Little Labs PCP... I used guitar pedals when I mix. This is the freeway I used.
Z Vex: Wooly Mammoth Pedal... Just got really, REALLY turned on it this. I send my bass (or guitar usually) out a bus into the Z vex pedal (via PCP) and good gotdamn the magic happens. I'm a big fan of all my Z vex pedals. If you don't own at least one, kill yourself now.
Oh yeah... And my pair of Royer 122's. They changed the way I track live instruments forever... You can use pre's you wanted to use but got way too much noise from in the past... a godsend.
