Most of the major players custom make snakes. Whirlwind, Pro-Co, Horizon etc. Many of us make our own snakes too. It just kind of depends on how handy you are and how much cash you are prepared to drop. For live sound, some of the things to think about similar to DVDHawk's post, having different lengths of main trunks with multipin connectors to attach fans and/or stage boxes. Also, for stage boxes is this a transformer split for FOH & MON or even a three way split for FOH MON and a broadcast truck. Maybe digital is the way to go.
The axiom "it's all just wire" is true in the Boy Scout sense but if you have high quality gear on stage and at the consoles you don't want the cheapest snake and connectors on the market.
