hi dvd,
thanks for your info. i think that yamaha is most likely using somewhat upgraded alpha 12a based speakers with a bigger magnet, which as you know are the very lowest cost eminence speakers- glued on magnet, 1.5" voice coil, etc. what puzzles me is how they can get the cabs to sound so good, with these speakers. apparently, yamaha doesn't want to give away trade secrets ,i guess, but it would be nice to see at least some of the specs. i don't want to tear that cabinet apart, but i'll do it! I'VE GOT A PHILLIPS SCREWDRIVER RIGHT HERE!!! DON'T MAKE ME USE IT, YAMAHA!!!! ok i'll stop now
thanks, john b.

Hi John, welcome to RO.
I would try contacting Eminence. In the past I have emailed Eminence tech support and asked what Eminence 15" speaker they might recommend as a replacement. (In my case for an SWR cabinet.) Of course they couldn't divulge much about the OEM speaker, but they were able to cross-reference a good "alternative" from their current line for me. Which you then have to buy from a dealer near you, since they don't sell direct. The alternative looked and sounded remarkably like the stock speaker. Read whatever you like into that.

Replacement diaphragms for Club Series horns are available online [[url=http://[/URL]="http://www.usspeake…"]here[/]="http://www.usspeake…"]here[/], for instance.
You should be able to determine the voice coil diameter of a woofer pretty easily.
RO member moonbaby might be able to point you in the right direction.
