There is no way this board can record individual channels.



You can, I assume, mix on the board and record direct to 2-track.

What do you mean? I don't see anything on the website that says you can record more than two channels at a time.

Glad to help. While your in the market, take a look at the Presonus product line. They are around the same price as what you have now.



The advantage of the Yamaha N8 is that it is also a control surface. Which means you can mix from the faders on the mixer. With most mixers the faders look nice but are essentially pointless when it comes to mix time since they don't control the software.



If you're ok with mixing in the box using your mouse, don't worry too much about having a physical mixer. There's a perfectly good mixer in whatever software you end up using.

Cubase SX3 is crossgrade, I believe. Meaning it should work on a Mac.

Talk to the Cubase people and see what it could cost you to get the Mac software. Since you already have a license for SX3, I imagine very little if anything.

I'll need to look into this as well, should I want to do on-location recording. Let me know what you find, and I will do likewise if I get the answer sooner.



And the Presonus stuff works great w/ Cubase. I have SX3 and a Firestudio + Digimax and run 16 channels @ 44.1/16bit into my PC all the time. No issues.

If you already have the license for SX3 you already have the software for Mac since the install CD has both formats on it. You do have the install cd right? And, the dongle?



That being said, it doesn't matter what software you use, the hardware you have doesn't support more than 2 channels of simultaneous recording at one time. This is the limitation. Your mixer also is not a control surface so you will still need to mix inside the box.



There are other usb devices that support multichannel recording via a usb 2.0 connector but I don't know how stable those are. I have yet to see them in mass production so, I can't help but think it isn't going very well for that format.



Generally, if you want more than two simultaneous channels of recording at one time you either need a PCI or Firewire interace.

Incidentally, I don't think SX3 is supported on Leopard.
