I've always recorded my riffs, my ideas, EVERYTHING. And Its been great just have an okay computer, an okay mic that came with my computer, and an okay sound card. But I want to do a little upgrade. Okay, it might be more than little. But I want to buy some equipment I can use to get some high quality audio on a budget. Here is what I was looking at, and I'm thinking about investing. Not only could I record my own stuff, but my band's music, and my friend's band's music, and I think itll be fun and a great way to start me off on the recording road...

I was looking at audio interfaces like this...

And then buying one or two Shure SM57's with mic cables, a stand...

Some decent monitors such as these

and then some good headphones.

This is just a start, and it's well under $800. I don't want to spend too much. Just for starters.

Can anyone recommend something, have any problems with what products I was looking at? Any suggestions? I'd appreciate anything. Thanks :D

I'm trying to keep things at a low price, which is my main deal. But I've read everywhere that you really can't stress the importance of good monitors. I tried listening to my bands stuff through my harman/kardon computer speakers and man it just sounds horrible. Should I really invest in better monitors? Shelf out another $100 for better monitors?

Those BX5's seem tasty but what if guitar center doesnt have that deal by the time I have the money...? There are also the DX4's. Those are $200.
