Hi. I'm breaking in a new system (see specs below) and have begun getting *random* hangings when mainly working with midi in Sonar. When this occurs, I lose control of my keyboard but am able to stop and restart buy mousing the toolbar-transport.
I am always able to save the current file and sometimes am able close down in the time-honoured manner. Other times I must power out - in which case Ctrl/Alt/del won't work..
I can replicate the issue by playing a file (need not have audio) whilst holding down Shift and one of the arrows. After about 30 sec, the above will occur. Could this be the video card? dodgy ram? I have a duplicate system on another caddy (not a clone) and this exhibits the same fault.
Any thoughts most welcome.

I have the depth defaulting to 24 and my screen is a LCD set to 1024x768.
I am using both the Layla's midi port and the port on the P4pe. It appears to have something to do with the speed at which I am working. I tend to touch type with Cakewalk (Sonar) and if I force myself to slow right down, it tends to not happen - to date. The speed issue is probably due to the fact that I would work much slower in Audio than midi.
The hang occurs when I am ajusting something rapidly in the left hand pane of the Sonar track view while playing midi at the same time. Then I loose keyboard control and must save with the mouse, and shut down and cold boot. Usually I can't warm boot.

Disable the Layla drivers and see if the problem occurs with just the built inb card. If so, then disable the onboard card and try the Layla. Also, it sounds like an IRQ conflict. Make sure that your USB Port, sound and video cards are not sharing IRQ numbers with any other device. PCI steering should be OK. If they are you can should locate a
number that doesn't appear in the list and change it to that number.
If you need help doing this, then you should contact your computer
manufacturer for instructions on changing the IRQ.
1) Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device
Manager
2) Choose View > Resources by Type
3) You'll a list of devices and their respective IRQs.
4) Alternatively you can run MSINFO32 and export the file as .nfo (to
view
on other XP systems) or as a .txt file.

Also I take it you are using the Layla's MIDI ports?
Are you getting any errors or just hang ups?
If the system restarts itself with nothing open then I would say it's something hardware based. If not then it's most likely a software/driver conflict possibly.
It's hard to say...does it happen with audio only or audio and MIDI? What about just MIDI?
