Hey everyone I'm new to RO... i've been looking around for a while and decided to join... I really like it here.
Anyways that out of the way
I recently bought two pci interfaces, an M-audio delta 1010 and a echo Layla24. I would love to keep both but i will most likely end up selling one to a friend of mine. in your opinion which one is better or which one would you use?
I did install the Delta 1010 on a computer of mine but I am still not all set up to record yet.. i understand i need a preamp for the inputs. any suggestions on some nice preamps for minimum costs? (I am a college student! haha). Also, when i did try to record some stuff I noticed that my computer would not allow me to use my other sound card for output which i wanted to do. Does anyone know about this?
What would be the best set up for my current system? What all do i need to buy to start recording? I have been recording for a while but I finally decided to step it up a notch and buy an interface and it is a bit overwhelming. I have all the mics, instruments, and software i just would like to know if anyone could help tell me how to set all of it up to achive the best sound I could get.
Sorry the post was so long I am just learning a lot right now. I would love and appreciate the feedback.

I would sell it all and get a presonus firepod. I looked at the Delta 1010 when I was setting up my home studio and I thought it was cool... but it is only a sound card.... you still have to buy an outboard mixer or preamp. The firepod is a 24bit/96khz sound card, an interface, and preamp(s) all in one package that you just plug into a firewire port on your computer... nothing else to buy (well, besides mics and instruments... and possibly a PCI firewire card (~$40 for a decent one) if you don't already have firewire ports in your comp.) To me it sounds great.... and for less than you would spend on a sound card + mixer with decent preamps. My roommate has a Delta 1010 and a 4 channel Mackie mixer that works.... but his setup was more expensive and I don't like it as much as mine. Just my opinion. Good luck!

I have all the mics (drums and vocals), instruments, and software (sonar, Acid, Reason). I don't have any real recording equipment other than the discussed parts. i play in a rock band and we want to use this equipment for recording demos and maybe some EPs and such. but i would like to get the best results possible with minimal expenses. i go to school so i dont have a whole lot of cash to work with. i also own a Peavey rq2314 mixer. i dont know if this is of any use but it may be. i really dont know. any more information taht you guys could give would be great!...

The firepod is a firewire device, and does not come with a card. The delta1010 Lt is the card only. The DELTA1010 is the interface. It has better converters than the firepod, but no preamps. buy the 1010 with an outborad pre with atleast 2 inputs/outputs, and be done with it.
