Don't use that mic.

Get two Shure SM57's or equivalent.

Mic one right on the grill about halfway between the cone and the outer edge of the speaker.

Mic one behind the amp aimed at the back of the cabinet.

Mix them together to taste.

Alternate is to put the second mic 2-4 feet in front of the amp and aimed at it (but this may pick up too much room sound and make the mix less defined).

Obviously I haven't heard it, but in my experience players use way to much treble and way to much gain. Turn both down and have another go.

The above advice is in no way meant to override the advice to upgrade the mics though. Thats a very good idea as well.

Sooo true! Try turning the Mids up some also. May not sound great through your amp but adjust and listen through your monitors. Mids Mids Mids. Good luck.

Listen to these guys turning down the distortion is gonna give you a better recorded sound even if its not what your ears like to hear. I have this argument all the time with guitar players so I've just gotten to the point where I have them set there head up in the control room and then run a cable into the tracking room I tell them to dial in their sound and when they go into the recording room to track I crank the gain down about 25%, never had one complaint and the guitar sounds are much improved. Although upgrading to a good mic and pre also helped and will in your case for sure.

ya thx for your help i guesse ill try and trun down the gian and treble and possibly up grade to to a sm-57 .
