Build the APIs first ....

If the Mozart PCB's are the Green-pre
then start with that and continue sourcing parts for the 312/Project2

the green is cheap and has less options to confuse you
you will learn things that will influence the way you approach the Gain Block project and may help with deciding on some of the options.

This second project if done correctly will probably become one of your favourite pre-amps.

I can't wait to get these suckers built....after these are done I think I'm going to build an LA2A, some Neve pres, and possibly some nice EQ's.

Kev, I think you gave me the advice to start with stompboxes and move up from there....thanks for that advice because the hardest part yet has been getting the PCB's built. I would've been blowing a ton of money on using larger boards! Now I'm using the photo+ method and it is great.

I thought that I'd save money with DIY, but with all of the tools I've bought I could've just bought the actual pieces that I'm trying to build, BUT this is probably the most fun thing I've done since starting to record bands. In the spring I'm going to start classes in electrical engineering.

Recording is my love, but with it being such a sketchy field I'm going to focus on the electronics side of things, and keep recording as a full time hobby with the hopes of it becoming my #1. Hopefully I can incorporate a career with electronics with recording!

which power supply did you choose ?

During this build we should be able to show you why Kurt is so against Wall Warts and Plug Packs as power supplies generaly for these sorts of analog toys.

Their simplicity and direct signal paths is what makes these two projects so good.

I'm using Peter's psu and Fabio's psu for the projects.

I just wanna jump in here and say:

Kev and Art - You guys are Da Bomb!!!! I'm thrilled to see so many people out there still building their own stuff! It really makes me feel all gooey inside. This is what the industry was started by was folks like you who, when they needed a product, they rolled up their sleeves, grabbed a soldering iron and went to work.

I have nothing but the highest admiration and respect for guys like you!

Thank you very much....I must say though that I'm a complete newbie and I don't know a lot of the science behind building this stuff. I couldn't tell you why to use a 4.7uf capacitor instead or a 47uf capacitor....I'm clueless...basically I know how to solder and read a schematic.
