At one point I had a pretty happening studio - specifically designed for classical recording. I had about a dozen DPA (Bruel and Kjaer) mics, some high end Neumann tube mics, a Protools HD3 system with Apogee and Lavry converters and a room I designed for good monitoring, hand wired interconnects of good Mogami, etc. - you get the picture.

I have since sold everything I owned with the exception of four pieces - one of which is my Grace. I could not let it go, despite the fact that it currently sits in a box in the basement unused as I'm not recording right now and have no plans to soon. I couldn't let it go.

Grace products are phenomenal and used in the highest tier of recording in this country. They rival Millennia for absolute cleanliness and purity. They are not for applications where you want color or presence, or or or. They are for razor flat accuracy - wire with gain. FWIW, I know that Pearl Jam records all of their concert tours with something like 48 channels of Grace preamps in the remote truck. At one point I heard that Jackson Browne (or was it James Taylor?) had 64 channels of Grace and every channel went through them. Paul Simon has, I believe, 16 channels that they use on every project he does. These are just some pop people that use it. If you head into the classical or jazz world the list is a mile long.

whether it is headphone amps or mic-pres the owners look like they will stay owners and advocates for life.
