I am experiencing 60hz buzz on a couple different brand high-endsmall diaphragm mics. As I move the cable around the buzz level changes from quiet to loud. Also touching the mic increases the buzz a bit.

I think I may be in a weird RF zone. I don't have any dimmer switches or flourescent lights in my house. Strange thing is is that my other mics do not have this problem, which include a few other small diaphragm mics, LDs, and dynamics.

I brought one to a gig in a different area and there was no buzz problem.

Wonder what it is about these mics that make them susceptible? Do you think using quad cable would solve this problem?

Thanks,
Eric

The mics are Earthworks sr69 and Josephson c42. I have a pair of each of these and all exhibit the problem.

I have tried different cables, different mixers/preamp with the same buzz results. Only the different brands of mics I have result in no buzz. I'll continue to try different locations.

I do not receive a shock when I touch them.

Thanks,
Eric

I made a mistake and posted a signature line that was not supposed to be posted. I did this while in a spell check in word and the offending signature line was added to the post. I apologies for the error to both Kevin and Soup and I can understand why they were both so offended. It was a mistake. I'm Sorry, Kurt

Kevin,
Once again, I am very sorry for the sig line.. I really didn't mean to let that bit of acidic sarcasm ever see the light of day. I guess I got what I deserved just for having it on my spell check page. I should have deleted it a long time ago. I keep several different sig lines on the spell check at one time and use the one that fits the bill when the mood strikes me. Lately, due to my becoming more involved in the review process, I decided against using sig lines at all. I also have been changing my identity from the anonymous "Cedar Flat Fats" to "Kurt".

I haven't seen any edits by RecorderMan (when a mod does an edit of another readers post, the system leaves a "footprint" line that says "Edited by : Moderator, date and time "). But he is no longer a mod, cannot edit and as I wrote you the other day, except for my faux pas, you should be relatively safe here. Scuze my language here but F#@K! I thought we were just getting all this settled! I am very embarrassed and I feel bad about this. BTW no one here has said a word to me about this yet. Not Chris, Bill , no one.. I am coming to you hat in hand all on my own. Please tell Soup once more for me that I regret upsetting him also and I hope we can see both of you guys contributing to the forums. Thanks, Kurt
