I am not sure if this is the right forums to post this

I just got a studio projects vtb-1 and i am wondering what would be the best way to connect it to the Q10

should i run through the inserts or the inputs on the front of the interface?

is anyone else using these two in conjunction with each other?

any help would be greatly appreciated

thank you!

Lumin,

This is a good place to post this kind of question, also micing, tracking, mixing &

editing or small steps would have be fine.

I went to the Aardvark Q10 web page

http://www.aardvarkaudio.com/aasd-v1/products/q10-main.html

and I learned the Q10 has these ins and outs…

10 In/10 Out Computer Audio Interface

8 Discrete Transistor XLR Mic Preamps

8 ¼" Balanced Line Inputs

(+4dBu/-10dBv)

4 ¼" TRS

Inserts

48 Volt Phantom Power

Powered VU Meters

2 EFR™ Guitar Hi-Z Inputs

S/PDIF Digital

I/O

MIDI

I/O

Word Clock I/O

Multi-Client Driver

¼" Headphone Out w/ Level Knob

Stereo ¼" Monitor Out w/ Level Knob

Expandable up to 4 Units (40 In/40 Out)

You may use the line input or one of the 4 inserts to route the VTB 1 into your Q10. However the Q10 is supposed to have very good mic pre amps....

8 Discrete Microphone preamps:

The mic pre-amps in the Q10 are a hand crafted, discrete transistor

design that yield outstanding noise specs and pristine sound quality.

Most other manufacturers soundcards use standard

"mic-pre-on-a-chip" solutions, which are not discrete and can lack the

clarity and definition needed for professional use. The mic pre's in the

Q10 are shielded in the breakout box and combine with top of the line

converters to deliver professional audio quality from your mic's to

your computer.

4 Inserts for Outboard Effects: The Q10 is armed with 4

TRS ¼" inserts that work just like those of an analog

mixer. These connect directly to outboard signal

processing gear so you can 'insert' the processed analog

signal between the mic preamps and the A/D converter. This means

your classic analog signal processing gear such as EQs, compressors,

limiters, can be easily integrated with the Q10s crystal clear mic

preamps, allowing you to still use your favorite analog processors

I would say try both your VTB 1 and the Q10's pres and see witch you like best. You may find each is good for certain things. ……….. Fats

It's my opinion, I'll play with it if I want to!

the q10 has inserts in the rear of the unit

i plug my TRS plug end into this insert and plug the y 1/4" end into the VTB

i get no signal into my soundcard or through my headphones

i look at the diagrams on the studioprojects website for the vtb but each cable used on the input of this unit is a TRS

i need help because i cannot understand how to plug this pre into the inserts of the q10

does anyone know a way?

thank you for your help
