I am reviewing a v/o track I recorded. I have a high-pass/ low-pass filter set on an external parametric eq at 80hz/11000hz. Bandwidth is set to 'shelf'.
At approx. 2khz, there is an obvious spike when viewing the audio signal with an analyzer plugin . It is inconsistant with the rest of the frequency curve. I think it represents a +6dB increase, and is as thin as a tooth pick visually.
What is the cause of something like this?
Thanks.

You might actually be looking at second or third harmonic distortion? But a spike? I usually only see one at 15,750 which is, horizontal sync from a television set! It gets into everything, even behind closed doors!
using any kind of eq boost can cause that.

Actually it sounds like a power supply problem that is inducing your 2kHz spike. Try and other input device. If it continues, it's the input on your sound card or just your sound card.
It's your tin foil hat.
