Greetings.
I am day or two away from buying two Josephson C42's. Should i do it? Speak now or forever hold your peace.
I have never heard these mics and I am majorly put off buy the 4dB peak at 6kHz. I want them firstly for acoustic guitar, and i prefer a mellow, mid range warm sound to a toppier one (like my last set of acoustic recordings with AKG 2000B's) the 6k thing seems more like a drum overhead thing. I figure i'll just cut 6k in the mix if i dont like it. But it might make tracking tricky... mic placement etc.
I want 2 quality SDC's. I can't afford the really nice stuff, Gefell's etc. And dont want to but any more cheap stuff. And there doesn't seem to be anything else. So wud u go for the Josephsons ($899 from Atlas)
Be well

Jahtao, if you'd consider buying a used matched pair, Email me. I know someone who has a pair for sale for under $700.

wud consider buying used pair but i live in the uk and am flying to new york in a couple of days for a week and coming back with the mics so unless they are in central NY i'll have to pass (let me know: maphubaird at hotmail dot com). Why he's selling them? Too toppy?
thanks for the input

I agree, I've seldom heard a product that has gained so much praise as the Josephsons. I don't recall anyone saying anything bad about them anywhere. I'm virtually sold on a pair of C42's but the Microtech Gefell C300 is roughly the same price and equally well thought of, hmmmm tricky.

Yo 'nado, Josephson's r majorly cheap in the usa ($400 each) and more expenssive in the uk (£375 each) last time i checked... makes Gefell's look kinda outta my reach (£1150 for pair from digital village)... I just might bring back an extra set from the states... for some lucky fellow.
: ) ah ordering the buggers tonight, almost as much fun as using 'em

I was planning on doing a trip to the states at some point when i've got the money to stock my mic cupboard and was hoping to save enough money on mics that the holiday would be free :D
EV RE20's are so cheap, $300 compared to £800 in the UK also Shure SM81's which I worked out were in between a third and a quarter of the price in the States compared to the UK. Man we seem to pay through the nose for everyhing over here.

I just did a mega quick scan on the net and got these prices converting £1.00 to $1.60
Shure SM81 - USA £188 - UK £329 - Saving of £141
EV RE20 - USA £274 - UK £666 - Saving of £392
Josephson C42 - USA £250 - UK £375 - Saving of £125
That's a total saving of £658 just on those 3 mics, imagine getting 2 of each which would go nicely in my collection :D
Gotta get some money and do it

I did. From the same place too. I honestly wouldn't have thought there was a 6k peak except for you telling me there is. At any rate, I don't find them harsh at all. I think they even fall slightly in the dark category in the one diagram that the listening sessions (?) did.
The really came into their own through some decent pres (SCA J99's). I have recorded some decent acoustic guitar with them, but I don't think I have anything up on the intranet anywhere right now to listen to. I think they are a good deal, but I can't say whether you will like them.
