G'day
I have a four track Akai GX 630D SS reel-to-reel tape machine, and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me anything about it? I'm running a small studio and was considering incorporating it into the setup as quite a feww locals like the analog sound...in fact some of them are die hards for it which is fair enough.
Any general or specific info about it would be well appreciated!
Many thanks
Ant

Akai machines were notorious for "glass head" problems, as I recall. You will definitely want to invest in some dbx Type II(or later) noise reduction units...look on e-bay for deals on those. My partner started his 1st studio with one of those machines. They weren't as popular as the Teac's and probably not as reliable, but were comparable in audio quality. The dbx's will make the noise level tolerable.Good luck!
