I used to own a peavey vmp 2 preamp, and I got rid of it because it had no meters. But it sounded so Good! Has anyone else had this kind of preamp before?
I did need meters, because they helped me find a good gain average such that the clipping won't occur. But, like usual, I probably made a mistake getting rid of it.
The VMP-2 was probably one of the very few products Hartley Peavey ever put on the market that was really a good-sounding piece. However, I never saw one that didn't have at least one of the front panel toggle switches broken off, and I doubt that the meters were of decent enough quality to be trusted much. Like Dave said, if you can't hear it clipping, who cares, right ?
