Here's a design for the university project.
And I wanted to know do I make a connection to the interface and Mixer
Interface is Focusrite 18i20
Mixer Behringer Wing 48 channel mixer.
It's a rookie question.
But what's the best possible solution to it.
Does the PC type matter too?
Regards Norman.

A few more questions to ask yourself:
Do you want the computer simply to record a stereo mix of all the microphones, or would you want it to record a separate track for each microphone so you could then experiment with different ways of mixing them down to stereo?
Is the mixing inside the Wing 48 done in analogue or is it digital? If it's digital, how might you connect that to the Focusrite Audio Interface?
How could the performers get to hear both themselves and other performers during the recording?
How might you build up a recording of just one performer playing several different instruments?
Good luck!

You have a wing, and an interface? What crazy teacher set this problem? I assume you don't really have either of these items, and this is just homework? Five minutes on the net would answer this? Clearly, you have no er, talent at all in music technology if you cannot answer this one.

I'm sorry - I've got rampant ear ache and no patience today - forgive me! Worse still, I've got 2 X32s and a M32 and then they bring out a new one!!!! Seriously though - if you look up the wing, you'll see it very clearly explained you plug it into a Mac or windows computers and you have loads and loads of ins and outs, making that interface a door stop!

When I was in charge of a music and music technology department in a college - we had a huge range of music types - from jazz to classical, through everything on the way, and it meant a great pool of people on hand when people wanted to record. One year we had a guy come in for an audition. I asked what instrument he played - he said Technics 1200's. He was furious he didn't get offered a place, but the course needed people to be able to play instruments. He said musicians make music with technology, and he made it with record decks. Therefore, he was a musician. No argument with a DJ being a music technologist, but a musician? Not on my watch.

Don't worry - I suspect we just expect university education to be a little more structured, that's all.
On a side point, it's strange they have the budget to buy equipment, but make no effort telling the students what it actually is? Blame the staff. That's what students are supposed to do.

Yes - I concur. Never blame a student. It's never their fault. I actually employ quite a number of my old college students. Some of the performers are now famous, lots steadily working in the industry, and those who do what I do make me jointly proud by the people they work for who were heroes of mine when growing up, and grumpy when I realise they've gone on to do things I never will get the chance to do. Education is very worthwhile to be in, but sometimes, little things really wind you up. I've decided that I miss the staff, and the students, but NOT the job.

i'm sure there's at least 2 different ways to get from here to there. how do you think it should be connected? if you figure it out yourself you will actually learn something instead of just doing it the way someone else says it should be done. read the instructions.
